Gino Severini’s Danseuse (1915) established a new record for any Futurist work ever sold at auction. Danseuse, which was estimated to sell at £7,000,000-10,000,000, sold for £15,049,250 (US$29,615,419) at Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Sale, having attracted bids from no fewer than five prospective buyers. According to the New York Times, this work may have been sold to a Russian collector. This amount is seven times the previous record for a work by Severini: $3.6/£2.17 million at Sotheby’s New York in 1990.
