Excerpt from an interview with Kate D. Levin, Commissioner in charge of Cultural Affairs in New York:
2009 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Futurism, the Italian artistic movement that considered New York as an example of modernity. Are you going to celebrate this anniversary?
“Something I’m looking forward to is Performa 2009, a biennial performance art festival which will run November 1 – 22, 2009. It will take the Futurist manifesto as starting point for its programs, featuring Futurist-inspired work, and manifestos by a new generation of artists. The organizers will ask artists to create work that reflects visions of New York City a century from now – so Performa 2009 will offer a look back, and a look into the future, and we’re very excited about the possibilities.”
