Christie’s Italian Sale of Post-War and Contemporary Art (London, King Street, October 20, 2008) includes Umberto Boccioni’s Donna che cuce from 1906 and Gino Severini’s Natura morta – compotier bleu from 1938-39.
Donna che cuce, painted before Boccioni’s association with Futurism, is estimated to sell for £250,000 – £350,000 ($431,000 – $603,400), while Natura morta – compotier bleu, said to be reflective of Severini’s “transitional period”, is estimated to sell for £75,000 – £100,00 ($129,300 – $172,400).
I am interested in seeing what value will be placed on Severini’s work after his Futurist painting set a record at Sotheby’s this summer. Sotheby’s concurrent Italian Sale does not include any works by either of these artists.
