2015–16 Fellowships
The theme for CIMA’s programming for the 2015-16 academic year (September 2015–July 2016) focuses on the Italian painter and printmaker Giorgio Morandi (1890–1964). The installation at CIMA will highlight in particular Morandi’s work of the 1930s, the decade in which the painter achieved artistic maturity and critical acclaim. This period of Morandi’s work, marked by a certain naturalism relative to his later style, is not well known outside of Italy. While any aspect of Morandi’s career is welcomed as a subject of study, CIMA is especially interested in two issues: the relationship between Morandi and his contemporaries (both within Italy and without) during the interwar period, and the influence of his paintings on subsequent generations of artists.
